Royal Caribbean Cruises to Base a Cruise Ship in Mallorca

08 Feb 2010
Royal Caribbean International has announced that it will base one of its ships at the Spanish island of Mallorca.

The 2446-passenger liner Grandeur of the Seas will operate seven-night cruises from the island’s capital Palma from summer 2011.

The new European cruises are mostly aimed at British and Irish passengers, with a “strong emphasis” on family travel.

Jo Rzymowska, associate vice president and general manager of Royal Caribbean International, UK and Ireland, said in a statement: “Our research has found that Royal Caribbean International is now the brand of choice for families choosing to cruise.”

The decision to base the Grandeur of the Seas at Palma is a departure from Royal Caribbean’s usual European ports of Venice, Barcelona, Rome and Southampton. Rzymowska said: “We now know the strength of our brand and are able to look at other embarkation points for the British market apart from Southampton.”

Itineraries for the Grandeur of the Seas have yet to be announced, but it is thought that they will be revealed in the near future, as bookings for the ship’s Palma season are set to go on sale in March.
